Risk Management
An educational overview of exposure assumptions, invalidation references, drawdown tracking, and session-rule configuration. The guide describes what Hanzo AI displays in paper-study tools; it is not individualized financial advice or an execution plan.
What this page covers
- How the platform displays hypothetical exposure calculations
- How invalidation and volatility references appear in model examples
- How daily loss and drawdown fields work in Phantom Desk simulations
- How to use Hanzo AI features to enforce risk rules automatically
- How to review hypothetical risk/reward assumptions without treating them as targets
The Core Principle
Risk management is a central topic in trading education. Individual outcomes cannot be controlled, while exposure assumptions can be documented and reviewed. Long-term participation depends on managing losses and evaluating methods across many observations rather than relying on selected setups.
Hypothetical Exposure Calculation
Phantom Desk can display a hypothetical exposure calculation from account assumptions, a user-entered percentage, and a reference distance. The calculation is a simulator field, not a recommended amount or individualized instruction.
| Example account field | Hypothetical percentage | Reference distance | Displayed result | Study note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Example A | User-defined | User-defined | Simulator output | Not a recommendation |
| Example B | User-defined | User-defined | Simulator output | Not a recommendation |
| Example C | User-defined | User-defined | Simulator output | Not a recommendation |
| Example D | User-defined | User-defined | Simulator output | Not a recommendation |
| Example E | User-defined | User-defined | Simulator output | Not a recommendation |
The Phantom Desk calculator computes the simulator's displayed amount from the fields entered by the user. Review units and assumptions; the output is for paper-study configuration and does not direct live activity.
Exposure Assumptions
| Study context | User-defined field | What to review |
|---|---|---|
| Learning simulation | Hypothetical percentage | Whether assumptions are clearly documented |
| Developing simulation | Hypothetical percentage | How changes affect simulated drawdown |
| Experienced simulation | Hypothetical percentage | Whether historical results support the assumptions |
| Prop Firm Challenge | Configured firm parameter | Whether the current official rule set is verified |
Invalidation References
A paper-study scenario may include an invalidation reference to evaluate later. The following are common analytical reference types, not instructions to place live stops:
- Order-block reference
Record the modeled order-block boundary and compare later candles with the hypothetical scenario.
- Structure reference
Record a Wyckoff or swing level that would change the interpretation, without converting it into an order instruction.
- Volatility reference
Record the selected ATR or range context and compare it with later movement. No multiplier or distance is prescribed.
- Session reference
Record the session high or low as a historical reference and note whether later candles crossed it.
Reviewing Hypothetical Risk/Reward
A paper-study worksheet can compare hypothetical gain and loss assumptions, fees, and later outcomes. No ratio, win rate, or expectancy value on this page establishes profitability or a minimum standard.
| Hypothetical ratio | Illustrative break-even field | Study note |
|---|---|---|
| User-defined | Depends on assumptions | Include fees and execution assumptions |
| User-defined | Depends on assumptions | Compare with retrospective results |
| User-defined | Depends on assumptions | Do not infer future expectancy |
| User-defined | Depends on assumptions | Model output is not a target |
| User-defined | Depends on assumptions | Record uncertainty |
| User-defined | Depends on assumptions | No minimum is prescribed |
Daily Loss Limits & Session Rules
Daily loss and drawdown fields can be configured in a simulation to study how rule constraints affect a paper account. Their usefulness depends on the selected rules and assumptions; no universal level is prescribed here.
| Rule | Simulation field | Study note |
|---|---|---|
| Daily loss limit | User-defined or firm-defined | Compare simulated behavior with the selected rule |
| Maximum concurrent positions | User-defined | Review overlap and correlation assumptions |
| Post-loss cooling-off | Optional timer | Document whether the simulated pause changed behavior |
| Session result field | User-defined | Do not treat a gain or loss target as an instruction |
In Phantom Desk's Prop Firm Challenge Mode, these fields can be configured to mirror a selected firm's published parameters. Verify current rules independently; simulation behavior does not guarantee third-party acceptance.
Correlation Risk Management
One of the most underappreciated risk management errors is holding multiple highly correlated positions simultaneously. This creates invisible leveraged exposure to a single macro factor.
- Open Correlation Matrix before each session
List every pair you intend to trade today. Check each pair's correlation with every other pair in your list.
- Compare highly related pairs
For a displayed high correlation, record the coefficient and lookback period. No half-size or elimination rule is implied.
- Review negative-correlation examples
For a hypothetical EURUSD and USDCHF example, compare the historical relationship and document why it may or may not offset exposure. This is not a hedge instruction.
- Document overlapping assumptions
If two series move together in a sample, note the overlap in the paper-study record without converting it into an account-risk formula.
Prop Firm Specific Rules
Prop firm evaluations use provider-specific daily and overall drawdown rules. See the dedicated Prop Firm Guide for educational explanations and simulation worksheets; Hanzo does not promise, improve, or verify an evaluation outcome.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use fixed dollar amounts or percentages for position sizing?
The simulator can display either user-defined amounts or percentages, depending on configuration. Compare how each assumption affects the paper record and verify units; neither choice is recommended here.
My reference level is crossed before price changes direction — how should I study it?
Record the reference, the later crossing, and subsequent candles as a retrospective example. Avoid inferring participant behavior or changing a live order from this documentation.
How does the AI Pre-Trade Validator check my risk rules?
When configured for Phantom Desk, the validator compares user-entered fields with the selected simulation rules and displays PASS, WARN, or FAIL context. It is a paper-study aid, can be wrong, and does not approve live activity.
